A Trading HUB and natural crossroads for commercial activity in northern Norway is the port and town of Mo i Rana.
Located at the head of Ranafjord about halfway up the coast of Norway, Mo i Rana is a deepwater harbour with four terminals, three of which are Owned and built specially for the heavy industry.
The fourth quay in Mo i Rana is the Town Quay ( Toraneskaia) operated by the port authority together with the Bulk Terminal. In 2001 a new container terminal was completed after the original quay was extended - in width and length - and a new ro-ro berth built.
The container terminal is conveniently located close to the town centre of Mo i Rana and also to the rail freight terminal and marshalling yard. The rail freight terminal is also served by a modern Kalmar 45 tonne reach stacker belonging to the port, capable of stacking five high in the first row and four high in the second row.
Mo i Rana regularly handle vessels up to panamax size (80,000 dwt).
In the National Transport Plan (NTP) 2010-2019, the port of Mo i Rana are among 20 other ports in Norway, proposed to be a part of the main national transport net.
On E12, the road between Sweden and Norway, a three year trail with longer motor-lorries, with a total length of 25,25 meters, and a total weight of 60 tonne from the Swedish boarder to terminals in Mo i Rana, started June 1st. 2008.
